History: [canon resource link]
William Turner Jr. was born in Glasgow, Scotland in the mid-1720s to a poor merchant sailor named Bill Turner and his wife (whose name is not given by canon). Orphaned at 12, Will nearly lost his own life when the ship on which he was a passenger was attacked by pirates as it traveled from England to a British colony in the Caribbean called Port Royal. He was the only survivor. Alone in a foreign place, Will became a blacksmith's apprentice and grew to become very skilled at his trade. Trapped by a rigid social class system, he was neither able to take credit for the work he did... nor act on his growing love for the governor's daughter, Elizabeth Swann.

One fateful day, a cursed pirate ship called the Black Pearl attacked Port Royal in the middle of the night. Elizabeth was taken captive, and Will could not sit idly by and wait for the military to take action. He sprung an infamous pirate named Jack Sparrow from jail in order to hunt down the Pearl and rescue the undeclared love of Will's life. The course of their adventure together taught Will a lot about sailing and pirating, about his family, and about himself. Making a long and exciting story short, Will and Jack rescued Elizabeth and broke the curse on the captain and crew of the Black Pearl. While Jack managed to escape Port Royal and the wrath of the laws against piracy, Will and Elizabeth confessed their love for each other and became engaged to be married.

Although it should have been a happy ending, the story is only beginning. Will and Elizabeth's wedding day was interrupted by the arrival of warrants against them. The sentence for piracy and conspiracy was death, so Will negotiated an exchange. Sparrow for Elizabeth. This set in motion a series of unpredictable events: double- and triple-crosses, horrible sea beasties, a legendary ship with her dread captain, a captive sea goddess, and a disembodied heart-- all culminating in a final battle between the last of the pirate lords and the military force of the East India Trading Company over control of the seas.

After all they'd been through (a detailed account can be seen here), Will and Elizabeth were married at last in the heat of battle while a maelstrom raged overhead. Even though the battle ended with the pirates victorious, the newlyweds' happiness was short-lived. Will was fatally wounded, and the only way to save his life was to bind him to the legendary supernatural ship named the Flying Dutchman, a ship whose duty was to ferry departed souls to the afterlife. After literally losing his heart, Will took command of the Dutchman and became her captain. He was able to spend his wedding night with his wife, but his duty to his ship prevented him from stepping on dry land except for once every 10 years. He became immortal and ageless, faithfully fulfilling his role as ferryman for the dead, even as the rest of the world continued as it always had.

Personality: As the oft-repeated quote states, Will Turner is “a pirate and a good man.” Despite the illegal nature of piracy and all the acts that come with it, Will still strives to be honourable and brave. He has been known to put his own life and happiness on the line, willing to give up what he wants the most in order to keep a promise. His earnestness to put himself in danger for the sake of those he cares about has earned him the reputation of being rash, and he doesn't always think his actions completely through to the end. He can be stubborn and unwilling to back down even in dire situations. Once Will is committed, there is no talking him out of it. He is steadfastly loyal, often to a fault and especially concerning his family. Despite separation from them and his somber duties as ferryman of the dead, this single-minded attitude is what keeps Will moving forward.

He has a clever mind and enough moral flexibility to use it to his advantage. He knows the laws of the land and the ways of the pirates, and he's learned to maneuver admirably within both circles. His sense of humour was polished by the pirates, but he's quick with a retort without typically having to resort to crassness. Will becomes proficient at manual tasks very quickly, most notably his blacksmith skills and sword fighting. But even when he doesn't catch on to something the first time, Will doesn't let such failings stop him from trying until he perfects it.

Abilities:
[headcanon extrapolation is marked with courier font]
Immortality. The captain of the Flying Dutchman is eternally bound to the ship, therefore her captain must live forever. He remains the age that he was when he assumed command. He cannot be poisoned or otherwise withered. Because the ship can completely submerge herself like a submarine, her captain (and crew) cannot drown. The only way to end the Dutchman captain's life is to stab him through the heart. Davy Jones cut out his living heart and sealed it away in the Dead Man's Chest. Now that Will is the captain, it is his heart that is locked in the chest. Stabbing him through where his heart would be causes a flesh wound, but it will not be fatal.
Accelerated healing. It is not enough to simply have long life. He must remain able-bodied so that he can properly perform his duties. Will can be wounded like any other man, but the magic of the Dutchman which makes him immortal also heals his wounds rapidly.
Intangibility. Davy Jones possessed the ability to walk through solid material used to compose ships with a mere focus of effort. This is not limited only to the Dutchman but any ship within a certain proximity. Will is never shown to use this ability, but it is meant to be used by the ferryman to cross onto other ships to collect the fallen souls from wreckage.
Psychopomp. The Flying Dutchman's purpose is transporting those who die at sea over to the other side (the Locker, the Underworld, the Afterlife, or whatever end the soul has waiting for it.) Will can cross the boundaries between worlds on his own, but this journey is usually made by the Dutchman and all her crew together. In this role, Will is also able to have interaction (touch and even full conversation) with the souls of the dying and the dead.
› In the mundane world, Will Turner is an expert blacksmith and a highly skilled swordsman.
› Through his travels with Jack Sparrow, Will became a highly competent sailor and in time grew to also be recognized as a respected commander with talent for naval battle strategy.

Restriction: As per the rules of being captain of the Flying Dutchman, Will cannot set foot on land except one day every ten years. However, due to differing theories put forth by canon itself and the fact that his ship will not be joining him in Arda, for this setting, this rule will be ignored. In addition, since many of his supernatural abilities are tied to the Flying Dutchman, they will all be diminished in various degrees.

Inventory:
--the Dead Man's Chest containing his living, beating heart
--the key to the DMC, worn on a leather strap around his neck
--his sword and clothes
--flintlock pistol with a handful of shots and a small bag of black powder
--Bootstrap Bill's black knife
--tin of Indian tea and half a bottle of rum

Anything else: Whatever else seems important and didn't find a place elsewhere.
